If you are considering retiring over the next five years, you should consider that now is the time to start looking.  It can take up to a year or more to locate the right property that meets your personal needs and desires and there is much to consider.  Questions to ask yourself include:

What lifestyle do I want?
What amenities must I have? What are optional?
Is it a mixed community or purely retirement?
Can I rent it when I am not using it?
Can I lease back if I am not ready to reitire yet?
What are the state taxes?
Inheritance taxes?
Proximity to airports?
Healthcare?

All of these questions need to be answered with careful consideration. Then there is the time that must be taken to research the options at the various locations.  This includes extended research about the area, a developers credentials and finacials need to be analized too.
